I’m presently using my Synology NAS with the Synology DS Audio app to stream my ripped cd library to my Oppo BDP 105 and 103. Do you have any knowledge or thoughts on the relative audio quality of this as streaming solution? I’m planning to upgrade the DAC, probably to a Holo Audio May. What other type of digital streaming component might yeild the greatest improvement in fidelity to this setup? Thanks!

I upgraded from DCS Bartók + MU1. I would say that the MU2 is quite a significant upgrade. The difference is not small. It's truly a magnificent device. Hours and hours of joy listening to my MU2. So much detail but so easy to listen to. Highly recommended and well worth a demo if you can.

I have had this for 5 years now and it is still going strong, thought I have gone with full Roon and I mostly use it as an endooint. I still occasionally use it as the server when Roon is down or cannot be found, which happens from time to time. The Elac can always be found on the network.

Fully agree I tried them and I was blown away especially under dac and streamer

Can I use Room to simply upscale tracks that I mixed long time ago and not happy with the quality? not for streaming just to upscale my music. doesn't it work for that?

Thanks Hans. I have this video saved so I don't know how often I have watched it. Like a "Haynes Manual" at first you need to make sense of the terms used, then you have to remember what it says and finally it's part of your knowledge, so it's different from just remembering. That the real advantage of Hi-res is in the fact that you can have a less steep attenuation to the signal. (Unless I have misunderstood ?)

I’m using the DMP A8 which claimed to have very good DAC built in The Denafrips Ares outperformed the A8 by far. the Ares provide far wider, taller, depth (I can hear the sound stage and musicians far behind my front wall). and musicians focus and the soundstage than the A8. The A8’s streamer is highly capable. Now, I’m looking to upgrade.

Bang on with regards to GoldenEar. When I first got a pair of Triton 2+ I played with the toe in for about a month, adding toe in an inch or two at a time. I found the sound was really locked to the speakers, with some but imaging but nothing to write home about. When I finally got the speakers directly on axis with my mlp they just disappeared! I think I've had them for 5+ years now and their ability to place sound everywhere still blow my mind.

How much do you see cable length or number of hops affecting the outcome? Does more ever equal better sound? What's makes these devices so expensive - is it R&D?

Really brilliant video this thanks Hans - An incredible amount of important information, really packed into this; so much so that I kept stopping and going back over some bits to really try get my head around the points covered. It was so useful for me not just because I’m working on something that needs me to better understand the topics covered, but all too often I’ve found that you hear so many of these terms banded about (sometimes inaccurately) without anyone explaining the terminology, or giving yourself chance to stop and think about the subtle, but important differences between say a streaming DAC and a Network player. This helped me a lot. Thank you 👍

very informative video! I'm now convinced that I should do something on my ethernet, but I do have a streamer with an optical network entrance, this should theoretically remove all the noise. But that is the theory, have you ever tested optical network for a streamer and/or have you compared it to a good passive ethernet filter. Is one or the other preferred?

Really appreciate this video. Im looking for best streamers (not including dac) for the price. Interested in how the wiim ultra would compare w the wiim pro plus. I like the Wiim user experience but wonder if i need to step up to sonething like the eversolo A6
